No microtransactions for ‘The Division,’ promises Ubisoft

In this conversation with a fan, community manager Natchai Stappers was not ready to discuss the element in the game referred to as Phoenix Credits. The manager director David Polfeldt of Ubisoft declared at the time that “The Division” will allow gamers to pay in order to speed their progress.

So it appears that Phoenix Credits might be an in-game currency but players will have to grind through the game to earn it as Stappers has confirmed that there absolutely won’t be any support for microtransactions or a pay to win model in The Division. According to him microtransactions were indeed under consideration, “but it never made it into the game”.

For those who haven’t got a crack at the betas, The Division is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that takes place after a bad disease has spread in Manhattan on Black Friday, infecting almost everyone in the city.

In spite of this confusion about what exactly microtransactions cover, “The Division” is going to be offering cosmetic items or vanity items as part of its DLC. Some of these games include the likes of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Rainbow Six Siege just to name a few. Such items are typically also considered microtransactions, as they tend to have a small price, when compared to the game’s initial cost, or other, larger pieces of downloadable content.

Having said that, Ubisoft has had a bit of a history of unsavory DLC practices, so it remains to be seen how all this will play out for The Division.

The full release of “The Division” is scheduled for March 8.
