Peyton Manning expected to announce retirement this week

From the team’s perspective, paying a game-manager version of Peyton Manning $19 million simply not to make mistakes and put enough points on the board to allow the dominating defense to defeat the opposition does not make sense from an accounting or personnel standpoint.

The Manning retirement speculation reached a fever pitch over the weekend when Woody Paige of the Denver Post reported that Manning was likely going to announce his retirement by the end of the week. For one thing, next season would be Manning’s last under the contract he signed with the Broncos if both sides chose to exercise the option for a final year built into the deal.

Last week, Broncos executive John Elway said that Manning needed more time to decide whether or not he will retire.

In between, Manning threw for 151 touchdowns and 19,062 yards.

“Obviously with the career that he’s had already and the way that he played this year, we’re very hopeful that we’ll be able to get something done”.

“I would love to have him retire as a Colt”, said Irsay before the Super Bowl.

Elway said the Broncos have exchanged multiple proposals with Miller’s representatives since the Broncos’ win in Super Bowl 50.

If Manning were to declare that he’s not finished yet, the Broncos, with young quarterback Brock Osweiler waiting to be re-signed, could find themselves in the sticky position of releasing him. When they talked at Cherry Hills Country Club, far from the maddening crowd, Elway told Manning he would do what was done for him toward the end of his career. Nobody wants to remember a hobbling Manning throwing lame duck passes to the other team. Along the way Manning hinted heavily toward retirement, including some telling remarks to New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.

Manning has made 10 comeback victories and 11 fourth-quarter game-winning drives giving him the nickname, The Comeback King.

His father, Archie Manning, bared via ESPN that his son is fully aware of what may happen in 2016.

Time waits for no man in the NFL – even a future Pro Football Hall of Fame selection. Manning said in making the ideal quarterback he would pull traits from some of his favorites like Joe Montana and John Elway. He would be available in the middle rounds and could come in a compete with Siemian right away but again, drafting a hopeful starting quarterback in 2016 from anywhere in the draft would taking a step back for the Broncos.

The Broncos maintain that Peyton Manning has no made decision on his future yet
