“Not in my best shape right now, but right now, it’s not about how I feel but how bad I want it. So I didn’t want to try and give it away”, De Grasse said. “The rest are a bonus”. The previous record of 64 gold medals was set in Winnipeg in 1999. McClintock was tabbed to compete in the men’s tricks competition in the afternoon.

“Now I just need to get back to work and improve what I have to improve for the world championships”.

He later finished fourth in the men’s tricks finals.

Earlier in the night, Canada’s Melissa Bishop won gold in the women’s 800 metres.

The United States held their lead in the medals race by upping their gold medal tally to 76 and 201 overall.

The Canadian Pan Am team had 67 gold, 59 silver and 53 bronze.

The Canadians finished the two-round competition with seven faults, one less than Argentina.

“I really like being a college student so it’s really hard because it’s hard to be a professional athlete and a college student at the same time”, said Catlin, who was only added to the event because the U.S. did not have a big enough road squad.

The Canadian team consisted of Tiffany Foster of North Vancouver, B.C., 2008 Olympic champion Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, Ont., Yann Candele of Caledon, Ont., and Ian Millar of Perth, Ont., who’s making his 10th consecutive Pan Am appearance.

De Grasse, who is coming off a remarkable performance that saw him win both the 100 and 200 at the NCAA championships, stepped up to the blocks to a huge roar from the packed 9,300-seat stadium at York University.
