Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump Look to Super Tuesday

This new message served Clinton well in SC where over the weekend she won a dominant victory, built on the strength of her support among black voters.

Clinton was successful in SC, in part, because she embraced Obama, someone who remains popular among Democrat’s African-American base.

‘I need your help to go and vote tomorrow, to bring people to vote with you, ‘ she implored a crowd in Springfield, Massachusetts.

“What we need to do is make America whole again”, Clinton said Monday in Norfolk, calling for a debate that focuses on “issues, not insults”.

Clinton is now primed for Super Tuesday, the 11-state Democratic battle that will put Clinton on friendly and familiar territory in the Deep South. Nate Silver projected that if the national race was a tie between Clinton and Bernie Sanders, she would win in SC by about 20 percentage points. Sanders conceded to Clinton in a statement, but noted his campaign was far from over. “So, I want to do everything I can in this campaign to set us on a different course”.

Sanders, who was expecting to lose on Saturday, left before the voting had finished and turn to the states outside the South in next Tuesday contests loaded with delegates.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio has to “stay alive until the middle of March, at which point Ohio, Illinois, Florida primaries take place”. Cruz asked parents if they would be pleased if their children spouted profanities in the manner of the brash billionaire, while Rubio mocked Trump as a “con artist” with “the worst spray tan in America”.

South Carolina’s demographics are similar to those of southern states that will vote on Tuesday. So our range for Tuesday in pledged delegates appears to be something like Sanders plus-1 to Clinton plus-151. SC was the first state of the 2016 primary season with a significant African-American population. This total surpasses the previous record of 55 percent in 2008, the same year then-senator Barack Obama swept SC, defeating Hillary Clinton.

“I congratulate Secretary Clinton on her very strong victory”. “We, tonight, have started Hillary Clinton on her way to the White House”, said Representative James Clyburn, the state’s most powerful black Democrat, as he introduced Mrs Clinton at a victory rally. We won a decisive victory in New Hampshire. He did not mention his poor showing in SC. With 53 delegates at stake, Clinton will receive at least 37, Sanders at least 12.

“We think we’ve got a lot of work in front of us, but, George, I think we can win this thing”, Sanders said.

For the Democrats, it is expected that Mr Sanders’ rival, Hillary Clinton, will sweep the votes.

Before the Super Tuesday when a large number of delegates will be on offer this was a great exercise to check the preparedness of the two Democratic candidates.
