Sam Bradford: PHI ‘making serious effort’ to sign Bradford
Philadelphia needs a quarterback, and if they don’t sign Bradford, they will be stuck with a backup quarterback as a starter in 2016.

The Philadelphia Eagles are determined to re-sign starting quarterback Sam Bradford with the free agency just days ahead. With Kelly heading to San Francisco, Philadelphia executive vice president Howie Roseman-along with current head coach, Doug Pederson-remain high on Bradford’s potential to perhaps be the everyday quarterback for the Eagles. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Bradford’s deal is worth $36 million, with $26 guaranteed.
The deal is a calculated risk for the 28 year old, who likely would not have broken the bank in free agency after a disappointing season in Philadelphia. According to FoxSports, the Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly upping their offer in order to retain Bradford. Reich comes over from the Chargers, which ranked ninth in total offense and fourth in passing offense last season, albeit with Philip Rivers leading the way. It would also mean they’re willing to gamble on not having him back for 2016, which would indicate a certain level of lukewarmness (lukewamth?) toward the man who overcame two years of ACL tears and a rusty, out-of-sync start to 2015 to perform solidly down the stretch. The Eagles clearly aren’t comfortable paying Bradford that much money, and for good reason.

Chase Daniel could still be an option to sit behind Bradford as well. The other options don’t look great for either side. If Bradford hits the market, he’s free to sign with any team. It wouldn’t be a bad decision to draft a quarterback in the later rounds of the draft as a fallback in case Bradford doesn’t end up being what the Eagles had hoped for. It wasn’t a massively overwhelming amount, but it was on pace to be more passes than he had thrown in his entire career if he had played in all 16 games. It remains to be seen if the interest is mutual.
