An Oakland police investigator measures the space between structures where a man fleeing officers died, Sunday, July 19, 2015. Officers performed CPR while calling for paramedics.

The Police Department says the incident occurred late Sunday afternoon when officers attempted to stop a vehicle on 65th Avenue near global Boulevard.

According to police, the man fled from the auto on foot into nearby yards.

The man was wanted on a $10,000 warrant, Watson said, though she declined to respond to questions about the nature of the warrant.

When officers found him a couple of blocks away about 30 minutes later, he was “unresponsive” and “wedged in a small space between two buildings”, Police Officer Johnna Watson told The Huffington Post in an email. Emergency medical personnel arrived and transported the subject to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff. At this time the subject’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
