Floyd Mayweather Jr To Fight Andre Berto On September 12th

“The thing is this, I do everything good, but my best attribute is I’m very very smart”, says pound-for-pound boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. during an interview with Bad Left Hook when asked about rumored fight versus Kazakhstan’s Gennady Golovkin.

Mayweather has indicated his fight in September – the final of his lucrative six-fight deal with Showtime/CBS – will be his last, though there is speculation he will fight on. Berto will certainly be a worthy opponent for Mayweather. If the report is true, it may confirm a popular theory about how Mayweather wants to end his career – with an easy opponent that will let him retire undefeated.

The decision to offer the fight for free could have been due to the “disappointing” fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao last May, which was dubbed “The Fight of the Century”, largely seen by critics as barely even close to that. But if Mayweather had beaten Pacquiao five years ago, there’s no doubt that these same critics would’ve cried about Manny not being a real welterweight. He may not have all the class of Mayweather, but with 23 knockouts from 30 wins, it’s possible, Berto could take him down.

“Mayweather might be taking the fight knowing this, thinking he can outmaneuver the heavy-handed Berto”.

Mayweather fights are known to draw a huge amount of money. One of his most memorable fights was in 2011 when he won the welterweight belt from Jan Zaveck, who nearly lost the sense of sight on his right eye during the fifth round of the match. Right now, the biggest question is how much revenue the fight would get from advertisers once it is aired on CBS. He was once suspended from the sport after testing for a banned substance, but it was subsequently ruled that Berto’s positive test was the result of contamination, and he regained his boxing licence.

While the elite of the sporting world can be forgiven for munching on the occasional Mars Bar or Kit Kat every now and then, you would think their diet would be strictly regimented while preparing for a major performance.
