Fierce encounter in J&K’s Pampore underway; 6 troopers, 1 militant dead
The 48-hour gunbattle between the militants and government forces at Pampore, 14 km from Srinagar, ended on Monday evening, with the killing of three terrorists.

The terrorists, whose number is estimated at between three and five, are holed up in a building of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) and security forces were making efforts to flush them out.
The death toll in the attack has rose to four including two CRPF troopers and civilian, while as another 12 CRPF personnel were wounded.
“No father can be prouder”, said 10 Para Army Captain Pawan Kumar’s father Rajbir Singh on Sunday, as his son was martyred today morning in the ongoing encounter in Pampore, Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior police and CRPF officers rushed to the spot to oversee the operation. They later succumbed to injuries at Army’s 92 Base hospital at Badamibagh, Srinagar.
On Saturday afternoon at about 3.30pm the militants attacked a CRPF convoy in which 11 personnel were wounded. Some 90 others were evacuated from nearby buildings.
As per reports, late in the night on Sunday, an Army officer – Captain Tushar Mahajan from Udhampur died after he succumbed to the injuries which he sustained during the operation.
“All the staff members and trainees were safely evacuated before launching t he operation against the holed up militants”, the official said.
Two Army captains, two CRPF men, a para commando and a civilian have so far been killed in the gun battle which began at 4 pm on Saturday. “They were foreign terrorists and were heavily armed”, Major General Arvind Dutta of Victor Force, told the media here.
Sources said security forces used Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) fitted with cameras to locate the exact position of the ultras inside the building. After attacking the bus, the guerrillas had entered the JKEDI complex and taken shelter in the multi-storeyed building, triggering a stand-off.

Meanwhile, authorities on Monday imposed restrictions in Pampore town where dozens of protesters on Sunday indulged in heavy stone pelting as they tried to march towards the JKEDI complex.
