Two people were killed and at least seven injured when a vehicle slammed into the Sweet Tomatoes pizza shop on Washington Street in Newton tonight, an emergency official said.

The crash happened during the dinner rush Tuesday evening at Sweet Tomatoes Pizza in Newton, a suburb of Boston.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan says seven other people were injured and were rushed to area hospitals. A Google image shows the scene before the crash.
Witnesses said the SUV did not appear to try and stop before crashing, hitting several people. The driver and a male customer are listed in fair condition. Ryan says all of the employees have been accounted for. But before the taps were hung, a Volkwagen SUV could be seen among the debris.
The medical examiner’s van left the scene with the victims’ bodies at approximately 10:15 p.m. Firefighters and police officers had shielded the bodies from public view with sheets and tarps.

Newton Mayor Setti Warren responded to the scene of the crash and described it as a “very tragic event”.
