Entertainment Weekly reports that the film aptly titled “Nina” will be released in US theaters and on VOD on April 22.

Oh yeah, if you were wondering what Saldana had to say about this new information when it comes to the project, she didn’t share the exclusive poster on her social media.
The official synopsis reads, “She was one of the century’s most extraordinary talents, a 15-time Grammy nominee and Grammy Hall of Fame Recipient; her mesmerizing songs and passionate politics combined to make her the unforgettable Nina Simone (Zoe Saldana)”. It was indelibly imprinted in her art and reflected in her aesthetic – so much so that Zoe Saldana‘s portrayal of Simone in the years-in-the-making biopic, Nina, is still being met with pushback. They took issue Saldana playing the part of Simone, saying other black actresses would better fit the bill.
Saldana was cast in the film more than two years ago, and though many are highly anticipating finally being able to see the film, there has been much controversy over the actress landing the role. “Can someone help me out?” another said. Selma star David Oyelowo will co-star in the picture as Clifton Henderson, Simone’s assistant who would go on to become her manager and “love interest”.
“I’m doing it for my sisters”.

The famed singer’s daughter, Simone Kelly, doesn’t approve of the film, previously saying that Nina Simone’s estate was “never asked permission nor invited to participate” in the biopic. I don’t care who tells me that I am not this and I am not that. “So that is my truth and that set me free”.
