A teenager in Nashville is suspected of opening fire on relatives after his mother and grandmother tried to wake him up for school on Tuesday morning.

The victims were transported to local hospitals and police arrested the teen a short time later.

The 16-year-old boy, whose identity was not released, is accused of shooting his grandmother, his 12-year-old sister and his 6-year-old nephew inside their Nashville home, police said. Authorities said he will face at least five counts of aggravated assault. “The teen’s 2-year-old sister was also present but not injured”.

He then threw the gun in a nearby apartment and fled his home on foot, police said.

Some nearby schools, including Cora Howe Elementary, a polling location for Super Tuesday, were briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution as police searched for the juvenile.

Police eventually recovered the handgun and captured the teen walking near railroad tracks in the area.

The teen’s family members told officers they were not aware the firearm was in a closet, Mumford said.

The boy, who attends Johnson Alternative Learning Center, refused to talk to Domestic Violence detectives, officials said.
