4 killed, 43 hurt in Negros bus accident

Police identified two of the fatalities as Ronnie Javarro, a bus conductor, and Nemia Paceno, a pharmacy student while the two other fatalities remain unidentified as of this writing.

Investigation showed that a Ceres Liner bus with body number 5126 bound for Escalante City from Bacolod City, driven by Leo Ciocon, 40, attempted to overtake another vehicle, but failed, causing the bus to overturn in the middle of the road.

Siocon and his fare collector, Shabiros Cuervo, are now detained at the EB Magalona Police Station, pending further investigation of the vehicular accident.

Meanwhile, Jade Marquez Seballos, Legal and Media Relations Manager of Vallacar Transit, said in a press statement that the company will extend immediate assistance to the families of the victims, including those injured.

But before it could do so, the bus collided with another Ceres bus speeding from the opposite direction and bound for Bacolod City, as stated by Bances.

Several vehicular accidents have taken place at the national highway in Barangay Santo Niño and the nearby Barangay San Jose in EB Magalona. Nino, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental Wednesday morning.
