Kansas shooting rampage victims include ‘loving, kind’ dad

As he has done after each mass shooting of recent times, Obama renewed his call for action to stem the epidemic of gun violence, while urging national media to open a serious debate on gun control. Reporter: The shooter, 38-year-old Cedric Ford an employee at the factory excel industries. A 911 call came in at about 5 p.m. CT.
Excel Industries is a family-owned business founded in 1960, according to The Kansas City Star.
As their recovery continues, so does the law enforcement investigation.
A gunman opened fire in two locations in Kansas Thursday before going to his place of work and spraying bullets, leaving three people dead and 14 others in the hospital.
Investigators said that while driving to the factory Thursday, the gunman shot a man on the street, striking him in the shoulder, and later shot someone in the leg at an intersection.
The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office initially said 14 people had been wounded, 10 of them critically. The others were taken to a hospital in nearby Newton, and their conditions were not immediately available, according to AP.

Still, Jarrell said, he never heard Ford threaten violence against his co-workers.
“I witnessed him shoot the shots”.
Walton said authorities had information on “some things that triggered this individual”, but he would not elaborate. What I see here today is a ton of love and so each day, keep putting that love forward. There was, you know, people laying on the ground. “He was somebody I could talk to about anything”. The order against him was filed in Wichita, but Walton did not detail why or who filed it, beyond that the filer wasn’t working at Excel. “The only reason I got out was one of the guys I work with got me out”, he said.
Matt Gerald told The Hesston Record newspaper that he was outside on break when he saw the shooter. “This man was not going to stop shooting”. “I was flabbergasted. I was at a loss for words”.
A Facebook page under the name of a Cedric Ford employed at Excel Industries includes photos posted within the past month of a man posing with a long gun and another of a handgun in a man’s lap in a auto. He said the victims appear to have been randomly targeted.
– At 5:23 p.m.: A Hesston police officer who responded to the scene shoots and kills Ford during an exchange of gunfire.
Walton said his office served the suspect with the protection from abuse order at around 3:30 p.m., which was about 90 minutes before the first shooting happened. “[He’s] a hero, as far as I’m concerned”.

Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton said Friday that had the Hesston police officer not killed the man during the Thursday evening attack at the Excel Industries lawnmower parts plant, it “would be a whole lot more tragic”.
