Authorities say Long Island beachgoers have been give the all-clear after a shark sighting prompted an evacuation.

A lifeguard initially evacuated Tobay Beach after spotting a five-foot shark in water, moving from the east end to the west end of the beach, around noon, authorities said.

Last week, a Great White was shoved back into the water after finding itself beached on the sands of Cape Cod.

The lifeguard saw a 4-5 foot shark and blew his whistle, prompting swimmers to get out of the water.

About 2,000 people were at the beach at the time.

According to police, Seventh Precinct Police Officers, with the assistance of the Nassau County Aviation Unit, responded to a call for sharks spotted in the waters off Tobay Beach.

The sighting follows a number of shark attacks earlier in the summer in the southeastern U.S. that resulted in serious injuries to a number of swimmers from Virginia Beach to South Carolina.
