SC flu deaths now up to 13
Experts said the epidemic already peaked on February 22, and there were no virus mutations, so people who have gotten vaccinated still have immunity. “Charleston County has had the most with about 990”.

Flu season is nearing its peak, but Spartanburg County health workers say they don’t expect it to be as bad as previous year.
The county health department offers flu vaccines at its office at 2300 E. Grand River Ave.in Genoa Township during the Wednesday clinic, which runs from 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. with extended hours until 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. From 2006 to 2011 – a span when 17 other states joined in creating vaccination laws – that rate jumped to 50.9%.
The states do not have equal vaccine laws.
Per state requirement, unvaccinated healthcare workers in hospitals and many other healthcare facilities have to wear surgical masks during direct patient contact. To do their analysis, Dr. Lin and her team assigned scores to each state based on the rigor of its law.
Those who have not yet received a flu vaccine are advised to do so, according to HHSA.
According to the Center of Disease Control, one reason less folks are getting sick is because the flu vaccine this year has been over 60 percent effective. For the season, there have been nine flu-related deaths.
“We were on point with our flu vaccine strains so prevention has been good and that coupled with the unseasonably warm weather we’ve had a light year”, said Dr. Bryan Clardy, Sebastian County Health Officer. Driven mainly by the School of Medicine and its affiliates, Pitt has ranked among the top 10 recipients of funding from the National Institutes of Health since 1998.
