Ky. Presidential Caucus is Saturday

After the impact of Super Tuesday voting this week, Kentucky’s Republicans get their turn in the presidential political spotlight Saturday. If you are registered to vote in one of the nine remaining counties without a caucus location, then you will be part of a regional caucus in a nearby county.

When voters are ready to cast their vote by secret ballot, the caucus goers will move to the balloting area.

As long as you registered as a Republican before December 31, 2015 in Kentucky, you can vote in the caucus on Saturday.

Every ballot will be counted, either by hand or electronic readers.

Kentucky’s Republican delegates will be allocated proportionately among the delegates as described in the Republican Party of Kentucky rules.

Kentucky Delegates will be divided between the Republican nominees based on how many KY residents voted for them in the caucus in each county. Voters will present identification to a trained caucus official, who will look them up on the voter roster. Senator Paul dropped out of the race in February, but it’s too late to change things back. “One person would open the ballot box, read it out, and one person on each side will mark it down on a piece of paper”.

The biggest difference is that electioneering is allowed inside the polling locations.

With just three days to go, Cheryl Grana is working overtime to make sure Kentucky’s first presidential caucus runs smoothly in McCracken County. “Presidential campaigns are allowed to send representatives to pass out literature or answer questions from voters”, Biagi said.

Q: If I vote in the caucus, can I still vote in the Primary May 17?

Completed absentee ballots have to received at the state party headquarters by 5 p.m EST Friday. Kentucky Democrats will still hold their primary in May.

Q: Will there still be a primary election in May? These are different polling places than primary or general elections.
