Female ‘Ghostbusters’ Finally Come Calling In First Trailer

One classic element is Leslie Jones’ character, the everywoman who joins the team, much as Ernie Hudson’s character did in the original.

A new cast of Ghostbusters has the tools and the talent to be called on, more than 30 years after the original.

Accompanied by an updated version of the Ray Parker theme song, we see our new heroes (Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon) making the transition from nerdy scientists to ghost fighters. Last but not least comes with Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones), a subway token booth clerk who’s been part of a ghost sighting, and volunteers herself as the ideal guide to NY. “When you see the movie, there will be a lot of things you’re happy to see, but they’re coming at you at a slightly different way”. New York City’s NY1 news anchor Pat Kiernan is also set to appear as news anchor in the film. “Because we talked to so many physicists trying to download us on science”. Other than Slimer, there’s no sign yet of the original cast’s cameos, so there’s no way of knowing if we’re in for some The Force Awakens-style baton passing, or just a little light fan-service. Feig said he wanted to “give [the fans] nods but also make each one their own”.

Ever since the news broke that the new Ghostbusters film would feature female Ghostbusters, a certain subsection of the internet has been gnawing away at “the controversy” like a goat on an empty baked bean tin.

The trailer is laden with gadgets and gizmos, and Feig really wants the audience to see the creation of the team’s new Ghostbusting gear and proton packs.

“There was no issue of gender, it was really “Oh my god, there is something unique about these four together”.

Sony Pictures is aiming for a July 15, 2016 theatrical release and the studio’s just announced the film will be digitally remastered into the 3D format.
