Wildfire prompts closures in both directions on Highway 50 near Pollock Pines

As indicated by Carson Now, a wildland fire was reported this afternoon near the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Kyburz Drive on the West Slope of El Dorado County and 22 miles west of South Lake Tahoe. The fire’s location is north of the American River on both sides of Highway 50 and structures are reportedly threatened by the blaze.

Another fast-moving wildfire is burning in El Dorado County in Kyburz.

“Well the fire is kind of in two places, it is north of the American River but it is on both sides of Highway 50”.

Mandatory evacuations have been issued at Whitehall to Sand Flat Campground. Local residents may access the restricted area of Highway 50 upon proof of residency.

Aerial resources include air tankers, helicopter, and the new “Super Scooper” stationed at South Lake Tahoe.

The vegetation fire near Kyburz, California, started as the result of a vehicle fire earlier in the day, Sheriff’s Sgt. The highway is closed as air and ground crews work the incident.

The fire was reported to be about 60 acres and growing at 4:20 p.m., as indicated by Schroeder.

It’s burning towards the old Kyburz burn area from 2013.

The highway is closed between Sly Park Road and Meyers.
