Disney plans to build 2 new cruise ships
Currently, two of Disney’s four ships sail to the Bahamas and the Caribbean out of Port Canaveral.

Each new ship will be approximately 135,000 gross tons – slightly larger than the newest Disney Cruise Line ships, the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy – and each is now planned to include about 1,250 guest staterooms.
Disney Cruise Line has announced plans to build two additional cruise ships, to be completed in 2021 and 2023. A new meet and greet with Star Wars: The Force Awakens villain Kylo Ren will also open shortly in Disney’s Hollywood Studios while a new show, Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire, has been announced for the Magic Kingdom.
Design plans, ship names and itineraries for the new vessels are still in development but are expected to feature the company’s signature activities, shows, decor and venues all themed on Disney characters and story lines.
According to the Disney Parks Blog, the House of Mouse has entered into a partnership with the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany to start construction on the two cruise liners. Truly the face of family cruising internationally, Disney Cruise Line is sure to excite and delight cruisers with their newest additions to the family. The Dream and Fantasy are both listed at just under 130,000 gross tons.

In a statement via the Disney Parks website, Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company, expressed his enthusiasm for the new vessels. The company is credited with creating the first roller coaster at sea, and its interior staterooms have also gained much fame, thanks to technology which allowed guests with rooms in the interior of the ship to have a live view of the ocean outside. That concept has since been copied elsewhere in the cruise industry.
