Far Cry Primal and Far Cry 4 Have the Same Map

Much to everyone’s surprise, Microsoft launched Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on PC today alongside Far Cry Primal, and as expected, NVIDIA has already rolled out its latest software update, offering GeForce Game Ready 362.00 WHQL drivers with exclusive support for both games.

A source “familiar with Ubisoft” additionally confirmed to Kotaku that the heightmaps (topographical data) from Far Cry 4 were indeed used as the basis for Primal’s map. The guys from Gamepressure noticed that the map seems to be a little too similar and they just might be right about this. What’s more, areas that previously had bridges to cross the water, have now been replaced with water fords in some locations. Due to the team’s hard work, “medium settings will net you performance on-par with how the game runs on Xbox One”, says Microsoft.

But Blood Dragon was just a £10 expansion to Far Cry 3, whereas Primal is meant to be a completely new game which costs the best part of £50. It wasn’t anything major, but it does make me wonder if the repetitive elements of the game won’t be limited to the crafting and hunting systems. Far Cry: Primal, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and Dying Light: The Following are all going to be ready to go with the drivers installed.
