Pushing ahead on a key distribution deal announced about four months ago, PlayStation Vue said it has added programming from Disney and ESPN Media Networks, including ABC, in select markets where Sony is selling the OTT multichannel TV service.
The new channels include ESPN, ESPN2, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD and Freeform (née ABC Family).
The basic package features over sixty live streaming channels while the “Core” package includes the live streaming channels of “Access” plus regional sports networks. On the other hand, the Core and Elite packages will also receive ESPNEWS, SEC Network and ESPNU.
Sony has good news today for its PlayStation Vue customers in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
Vue had launched last March offering some 50 channels for about $50/month, but along with the Disney launch, Sony’s hoping to draw more viewers by lowering its base price for all subscribers to $40/month.
Why this matters: The $10 per month price drop and new channels should make PlayStation Vue more attractive to potential cord cutters, but the sledding isn’t likely to get much smoother for Sony regardless. The service is accessible on PlayStation 4 and PS3 consoles; Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick; Google Chromecast; and Apple’s iPad and iPhone. And unlike cable, there are no hidden fees, equipment rental costs, or installation charges.
However, the multi-channel packages of the service are only available to a limited number of USA markets, including Los Angeles, Dallas, New York City, Miami, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago.

Disney offers ESPN and other channels via Dish Network’s Sling TV, which offers a single stream – meaning it can only serve one device at a time.
