Maybin’s broken wrist overshadows Tigers’ win over Braves

The Tigers open the regular season in 4 and a half weeks, so it will be a close call for Maybin to be ready for the regular season.

Maybin is not a dynamic hitter, owning a career slash line of.251/.313/.366, but he did hit a career-high 10 home runs last season.

With Maybin out, and as he works himself back into shape, Anthony Gose is the odds on favorite to get his playing time. The 28-year-old is expected to platoon in center field for Detroit this spring and summer with the left-handed Anthony Gose.

Originally, Sanchez (per a tweet from MLB.com’s Jason Beck) “said he felt tricep flare up when he cranked up fastball in bullpen session”. Gose was a lock to make the club out of Spring Training, but now Nate Schierholtz, Tyler Collins, or Steven Moya will also make the trip north as a fourth or fifth outfielder.

“I don’t know”, Ausmus said. Hopefully the injury is just a minor setback and he can resume getting ready for the regular season soon.

Before his wrist injury, he was dealing with residual shoulder soreness from a slip-and-fall accident at his home this offseason.

“It’s part of the game”, declared manager Brad Ausmus after reporting that center fielder Cameron Maybin will be out four to six weeks recovering from a broken left wrist.

“The doctor said four, six weeks”, Ausmus said after Thursday’s 8-2 win over the Atlanta Braves. Maybin has made a full-swing with Detroit, but probably will not be present on 2016 Opening Day.

“Generally, that means 4-6 weeks for it to heal before you start participating in baseball activities”, Ausmus said.
