Klopp: Mignolet knows Fernandinho goal should have been stopped

“It was good enough to win this game, because we should not concede the goal”.

“I’m not sure it was a mistake, but it was not flawless I would say”.

Liverpool missed their chance in the League Cup decider, suffering a 3-1 penalty shoot-out loss after a 1-1 draw through 120 minutes at Wembley.

“On the other side I can say absolutely nothing negative about SM – he’s a really good boy, big personality and since I’ve been here he has to handle a lot of pressure”.

“Wednesday is a weird game because we are playing against a team that is going to be just as exhausted as we are”.

“I always learn about my players but not only in finals”.

“Maybe your word is not important, maybe the most important thing is to win things, but I think my word is more important than football”.

‘Clearly we plan for next season. If we carry on and work really hard, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

‘We don’t have to be first or anything (in the transfer market), but in the end we have to plan for the future and that is what we are doing’.

But, after Fernandinho’s opener for City was cancelled out by Philippe Coutinho, an entertaining cup final ended 1-1 after extra time and in the ensuing penalty shootout, Caballero was to become the hero – saving three Liverpool kicks as Pellegrini’s side took the trophy.

The goalkeeper allowed the Brazilian’s effort to slip under him from a tight angle, an error which not only gave Manuel Pellegrini’s side a goal advantage at Wembley, but changed the complexion of the game.

Klopp revealed that Lucas is out of tomorrow’s game against City with a muscle injury, and there are doubts about Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Sturridge too.

“I think it was the right decision but until now I have heard nothing about the real issue, so I have to wait for the final judgement of the Doc”.

“We’ve got to do that again”.

“When we have to make decisions we have to make it with a lot of information”.

Liverpool comfortably beat City 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium back in November and, although a win against them at Anfield would have a significant bearing on the title race, Klopp is not interested in the wider issues.
