Rubio, appearing at a casino in Las Vegas early Tuesday morning, reminded backers to look up the locations of their caucus sites: “Make sure you know exactly where to go tonight – it’s that important”.

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was projected the victor of the Nevada caucuses on Tuesday for his party’s nomination for the 8 November presidential election, several news outlets reported.

Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz battled it out for second, with Rubio taking the spot with less than 2,000 votes ahead of Cruz.

“If you listen to the pundits, we weren’t expected to win too much, and now we’re winning, winning, winning the country”, Mr Trump said at a victory rally in Las Vegas.

Speaking after the win, Trump thanked each group of his supporters: “We won the evangelicals”. “And soon the country is going to start winning, winning, winning”.

The Republican candidates are now turning their attention to Super Tuesday on March 1, when more than a dozen mostly southern states from Texas to Virginia could give some of the leading candidates a big boost.

“I love the poorly-educated”, Trump said. Many Nevadans were new voters who showed up in full force to support the billionaire businessman.

“We’re gonna get greedy for the United States”, he pledged.

Winning in Nevada puts Trump in a commanding position going into Super Tuesday on March 1.

Donald Trump might tone down his abrasive approach if he wins the Republican nomination, he said hours after winning the Nevada caucuses, but for now he believes it works well for him.

Rubio said on GMA Wednesday that his campaign is not one that “attacks people”, but he will certainly “correct” Trump if there are policy differences or things with which he disagrees during the GOP debate Thursday night.

Among voters with college degrees, according to the poll, Trump had 43 percent, followed by Rubio with 29 percent, Cruz with 20 percent, and Carson and Kasich with 4 percent.

It is Trump’s third win in a row after winning primaries in New Hampshire and SC earlier this month.

Rubio, a senator from Florida, has been consolidating support from establishment Republicans, trumpeting one endorsement after another, since the demise of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s candidacy.
