Forza 6 free-to-play ‘Apex’ version coming to PC

Now that Microsoft has laid the groundwork, every new Forza Motorsport racing game will ship on both Windows 10 and Xbox, said Forza series creative director Dan Greenawalt. The hotly anticipated Quantum Break, which stars Shawn Ashmore (from “X-Men: Days of Future Past”) as a fugitive who winds up with superpowers after a time-traveling experiment gone wrong, will be released on Windows 10 and Xbox One on April 5. This will include games that are playable across Xbox One and PC, with shared saves so you never lose progress, and the possibility of some titles on mobile as well. Well put your wallet away, cause Microsoft has announced this Spring a free to play version of Forza Motorsport 6, called Forza Motorsport 6: Apex will be released on Windows 10.

Microsoft is merging its software for Windows PCs and for Xbox consoles.

The Virginia International Raceway is also introduced via the expansion, with dry, night and wet configurations for the player to master, with seven new ribbons also featured. Instead, the company wants to present the Xbox as a platform gamers play and play again-the Monthly Active User metric that apps are obsessed with.

With bleeding edge race cars like the 2014 Audi #2 Audi Team Joest R18 e-tron quattro, modern masterpieces like the 2017 Ford GT, and classic American Muscle like the 1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am SD-455, the cars in Forza Motorsport 6: Apex represent the far-reaching diversity that is part of Forza’s DNA. Looks like this is how Microsoft and Turn 10 is gonna do things from here on in. Given the graphical complexity of the Xbox One version, you probably shouldn’t expect an older PC with integrated graphics will be able to run Apex.

It’s unlikely that this will prove enough to conquer Steam on its own, but with every game added exclusively to the Windows 10 store, Microsoft carve out their own niche. If it throws a few freebies your way to do so, then that’s good, right?
