Police investigating the incident found no evidence of trauma and have ruled out homicide, the Beijing Youth Daily said.

The lift stopped between the 10th and 11th floors of a block of flats when a cable broke on January 30. Investigators said that when her corpse was found, her hands were mangled – apparently due to her attempts to pry open the cab doors.

CNN- A 43-year-old woman was found dead in an elevator in China after possibly being trapped for a month, state media reported.

The Gaoling district government said the two maintenance workers are facing a case of involuntary manslaughter. She reportedly lived alone in the building, but residents in the area questioned how she could have been trapped in the elevator for so long without her family or the neighbors being alerted to her disappearance.

The work on the broken lift was delayed partly because of the new year holidays.

China has poor records on workplace safety where proper safety procedures and practices are routinely ignored. As she fell half-way through the escalator she pushed her young son forward, and a nearby shop assistant dragged him to safety.

“There’s now a shadow across my heart, it’s scary and it gives me shivers to pass by” that part of the building.

Upon hearing the news, residents began to gather at the bottom of the building to find out what was going on. Caixin said that local officials were taking steps to replace the building management. “To think of this happening in one’s own building”.
