OIC condemns Iraqi vice president’s comments about Saudi Arabia

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has released a strongly worded statement denouncing Nuri al-Maliki, former Iraqi Prime Minister, for his recent remarks against Saudi Arabia.

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. An Iraqi official proposed to place Saudi Arabia under the global community’s custody and this proposal is actively discussed. “Saudi Arabia must become worldwide protectorat”, Maliki said. It stressed that the statements contradict the OIC charter that calls for strengthening relations between member countries on the basis of justice, mutual respect, good neighborliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of the member countries.

These provocative and unrealistic statements are among Al Maliki’s “known endeavors” seeking to harm Iraq’s relations with the Arab brethren, Al- Zayani added, while saying attitudes and honest efforts of Saudi Arabia and the GCC states towards the fight against terrorism put them at the forefront of the world countries in this regard.

“These claims are absurd in light of the effective and significant role played by the kingdom in combatting terrorism and extremism at the national, regional and worldwide levels”, OIC said. OIC accused the vice president of inciting “sectarian and denominational agenda” rather than supporting the organization and its member states to work to face up “common challenges”.
