Harrington Breaks Down Cruz’s ‘Big Night,’ Rise as Trump Alternative
Republican presidential candidate, Sen.

Trump, 69, contained Cruz’s advances by winning in the delegate-rich states of Louisiana and Kentucky.
On Saturday, March 5, only ultra-conservative Cruz scored victories against Trump – in Kansas and Maine.
“Everyone’s trying to figure out how to stop Trump”, the billionaire marveled at an afternoon rally in Orlando, Florida, where he had supporters raise their hands and swear to vote for him.
On the Democratic side, front-runner Hillary Clinton won on Saturday in Louisiana and rival Bernie Sanders won in Kansas and Nebraska, in results that slightly expanded Clinton’s delegate lead over the senator from Vermont. The results did not alter the contours of a race in which Mrs Clinton maintains a significant delegate lead.
Saturday’s races could also help make the case that Ted Cruz – and Ted Cruz alone – should be the one taking on Donald Trump.
Last night the odds lengthened on Mr Trump winning the Republican nomination.
Romney’s name has been repeatedly floated by some establishment Republicans who believe the 2012 party’s nominee could unify the GOP after a divisive primary campaign, in the event none of the GOP primary candidates snag a majority of available Republican delegates before the party’s summer convention. Romney’s address raised questions about his own willingness to seek the nomination at a convention.
Graham and Romney spoke on NBC’s “Meet The Press”. Marco is down in Puerto Rico getting ready for today’s contest and he was still Mr. Optimism after the votes were counted.
Cruz, a USA senator from Texas who has promoted himself to voters as a true conservative, in contrast to Trump, also won a non-binding “straw poll” of activists at the Conservative Political Action Conference near Washington, DC. “And I say that respectfully”.
In the overall race for delegates, Trump led with 335 and Cruz had 248.
“What it represents is Republicans coalescing, saying it would be a disaster for Donald Trump to be our nominee”, he said. There are a total of 358 delegates at stake in the five states voting March 15, including 99 in Florida and 66 in Ohio.
“Think about what presidents have meant in history”, he said. “And it’ll be a whole new ballgame and I’ll be able to compete in a lot of these states”.
Clinton’s path to a MI lead in the poll looks much the same as her path in previous states: she leads on being seen as qualified and on being commander-in-chief, but Sanders is seen by more as honest.
“No matter who wins this Democratic nomination”, she said, “I have not the slightest doubt that on our worst day we will be infinitely better than the Republicans on their best day”.
Sanders, who won by comfortable margins in Nebraska and Kansas, said in an interview with The Associated Press that his solid victories were evidence his political revolution is underway.
“I think it’s time that he dropped out of the race”, Trump said of Rubio afterward.
The two Democrats will debate Sunday night on CNN at 8 p.m. ET in Flint, Mich.
Clinton picked up at least 48 delegates to Sanders’ 37 in Saturday’s contests, with delegates yet to be allocated.
Clinton also has the support of 90 per cent of the so-called “super-delegates” who are basically party-appointed hacks who can exercise conscience votes instead of expressing grassroots sentiment. It takes 2,383 delegates to win the Democratic nomination. And John Kasich leading in Ohio.
It takes 1,237 delegates to win the Republican nomination for president.
