Metal Gear Solid Fan Remake Shadow Moses Canceled

A fan had been in development for a remake of the first Metal Gear Solid video game. After all, the Japanese publisher did put a stop to a similar fan project to remake the original Metal Gear. Even if it doesn’t, it’s not hard to see why it might not want a full-blown high-quality remake of one of its games floating around the Web for free.

We have an important announcement to make today: We have to cancel the Shadow Moses Project for reasons beyond our control. However, the project has now been cancelled.

We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous support we have received. It’s true that there have been remakes of the game since then, most notably Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, but this project was going the “same game but with modern visuals” route. That said, the team had been trying to get Konami’s blessing, and the company has been aware of the project since December, not long after it was first announced.

But for Metal Gear fans this is yet another sad footnote to a story that’s been brewing for quite a while now.

Metal Gear Solid, or simply MGS1, is one of the most critically acclaimed games during the PS1 era, and one of the best games of all time.

Airam Hernandez had mentioned previously that they would have to get full permission from Konami at some point for the project by making it public, but he thought that the project being out in the open may have made the process easier.
