Mrs Reagan, who died of congestive heart failure in Los Angeles on Sunday, was also praised by other senior United States politicians and foreign leaders. She died at her Los Angeles home. Nancy Reagan said farewell to her husband in 2004. “She was absolutely devoted and loyal to her husband”.

Nevadans on Sunday recalled how deep Nancy’s devotion was to Ronald Reagan.

Working in the White House and traveling with Nancy Reagan to many places “was a fabulous experience” but, Robertson said, in January 1989 “I was ready to move on”.

In a statement, the Obama family said: “Nancy Reagan once wrote that nothing could prepare you for living in the White House”.

“She never emerged as a political player in her own right”.

“I think it’s kind of like the relationship the families had with the Carters. She was a BOSS”, wrote actress Elizabeth Banks of “The Hunger Games” fame.

Republican candidates for the 2016 presidential nomination, from businessman Donald Trump to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, also conveyed their sympathies.

Certainly among the conservative community in Orange County, Ronald and Nancy Reagan are revered as pillars. Nancy said of her expensive collection of Galanos designs, “Nobody could afford to dress completely with Jimmy”.

“Prior to the funeral service, there will be an opportunity for members of the public to pay their respects at the Library”, the statement read.

Nancy Reagan was known for saying her life began when she met and married Ronald Reagan. She headed several causes while she was in the White House and even in the years after. “She went from being something of a minor embarrassment to really one of the most popular and well-liked first ladies in modern history”.

After leaving office, President Ronald Reagan battled Alzheimer’s for 10 years.

“I talk to people”. But she knew well how to work within them.

I am saddened to hear of her passing, but find solace that she will once again join her husband.

“She was quiet and mild, but you could tell she had steel on the inside”, William Bennett, who served as education secretary in the Reagan administration, told the Washington Post. She then served as first lady of California during his stint as state governor from 1967 to 1975, during which time she supported veterans groups and advocated for older Americans to serve as foster parents to children with special needs. “And I described that experience to her. And she opened up to me as if we were old friends”.

Reagan raised the cap that covered his shaved head as he waved goodbye and Nancy lovingly tapped his head, reminding him to put it back on. Galanos designed Nancy’s 1981 inaugural gown, a white-beaded, one-shouldered sheath gown of lace over silk satin that is now in the Smithosnian Institute.

Whenever I asked about the president, she would only say, “He’s fine”. I have profound admiration for Mrs. Reagan.

Nancy Reagan acknowledged she had the ear of her husband.
