Arsenal goalkeeper Cech out for key tie

Arsene Wenger revealed at his media briefing on Friday morning that the goalkeeper will be out for “three to four weeks” with the injury sustained in Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea.

The Arsenal goalkeeper sustained the injury after running up to the other end of the field in injury-time at the end of the match against Swansea on Wednesday night.

Wenger rejected former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry’s comments that fans were enraged by the loss to Swansea.

The way Arsenal are playing, I just can not see them getting anything out of the game. “Thierry Henry has his opinions”, said Wenger. Who can measure that, who can compare that? You want the players to be tough enough to sometimes be able to play through a little pain.

“So, it doesn’t look to me (like) a major statement”.

That view is seemingly reinforced by the imminent recall of David Ospina, who has not played a top flight game this season, and has proven himself to be a bag of nerves between the sticks since his move to The Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2014. “It’s quite remarkable that you are shocked by statements like that”.

“Then you have to trust the player”. We have to provoke the positive reaction from the fans and that’s our job.

“I think that’s always what’s coming out. We have maybe more duels than usual in the game on the pitch and the pitch is quick as well so that makes for a very quick game”. “I’m not anxious at all”, he said.

After Chelsea’s collapse under Jose Mourinho at the beginning of this campaign and Manchester City’s stuttering form throughout the season, Arsenal should have ran away with the league title and should be comfortably ahead at this stage with 10 games left to play.

That disappointment could peak with defeat at White Hart Lane, as Wenger also has to deal without defender Laurent Koscielny who is missing with his own calf complaint.
