Greg Gard Reportedly to Be Named Permanent Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Coach
Greg Gard is expected to be announced as Wisconsin’s men’s basketball coach Tuesday, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to USA TODAY Sports.

A Wisconsin assistant since 2001, Gard, 45, took over as the Badgers’ interim head coach following the retirement of longtime head coach Bo Ryan on December 15.
Since taking over the top job, Gard has been credited for turning the team around after a rocky start to the season and keeping alive a NCAA tournament streak that goes back to 1999.
ESPN reported Monday that sources say the interim head coach had his official interview with the athletic department on Monday, and the UW Board of Regents would be meeting Monday night.
That wasn’t necessary because Gard did such a tremendous job during his first two-plus months on the job. It became clear to me as the season wore on and I was able to observe Greg both on and off the court that he was the right person to lead our men’s basketball team. Since he’s been with the program, Wisconsin is 184-74 in Big Ten play.
Gard will reportedly be officially introduced as the Badgers head coach at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

The Badgers finished the regular season with a 12-6 Big Ten record, losing just twice over the final seven weeks of the season.
