Indians won’t trade Mike Aviles, whose daughter is battling leukemia
At 45-48, the Indians certainly aren’t a lock for the postseason. And they might be best served trading away some pieces to retool for 2016. He will be a free agent at the end of the season and can play several different positions.

Aviles will not be traded at all this summer despite interest in him, as the Indians have admirably vowed to keep him in town as his four-year old daughter undergoes treatment for leukemia in the city. Aviles is said to have been targeted by other teams.
Aviles has been away from the team for two brief stretches this season during especially important times during his daughter’s battle, and it’s possible he’ll need to be away again. “We haven’t spoken too much about it other than just to kind of maybe explain why he hasn’t been here and stuff like that”.
Adriana Aviles was diagnosed with leukemia in May. That has less to do with his ability and more to do with his current family situation. In late May many players and team executives including owner Paul Dolan shaved their heads in support of Adriana.

The Cleveland Indians aren’t out of the playoff race quite yet, but there’s one player who definitely isn’t for sale ahead of the Major League Baseball trade deadline. And no matter how that impacts the Indians’ record moving forward, it clearly represents the right thing to do.
