Corruption warning to minnows as World T20 begins

“You would have read that a particular player was suspended from his country and investigations relate to the same team”, Dave Richardson had said (Hong Kong’s Irfan Ahmed was provisionally suspended for failing to report an approach in January).

Hello and welcome to the live blog of the first match of the ICC World T20 between Hong Kong and Zimbabwe in Nagpur.

Zimbabwe faces Hong Kong at Tuesday’s crucial opening qualifier.

A total of 58 tournament matches, including 35 men’s matches and 23 women’s matches, will be played in the 27-day tournament in Bengaluru, Chennai, Dharamsala, Kolkata, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur and New Delhi. This stage of the tournament begins on Tuesday 15th March, with two teams ultimately advancing from each group through to the semi-finals, the winners competing in the final at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday 3rd April.

In 2014 World T20 Hong Kong defeated hosts Bangladesh to cause an upset early on in the tournament. They will be joined by the qualifying team. Well, Zimbabwe is more promising to win the ticket to the world cup series but no one knows some underdog may rise to k=make them fall.

ZM has also the added advantage of experienced and well known players.

Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bat and was able to make 112-7 in 20 overs with Richmond Mutumbami being the pick of the batsmen as he made 50 off 51 balls with three fours and one six.

Zimbabwe chose to field what appears their strongest side with Vusi Sibanda and Masakadza at the top, Sikanda Raza in the middle order and senior seamer Tinashe Panyangara to head up the bowlers. They have not experience word cup yet but they must be working hard to give their 100 percent to do so and it would be a good boost to their confidence if they win tomorrow with zimbabwe which is more experience in comparison to them. Our batting is our strength, so hopefully we’ll deliver.
