Latest Google Photos update supports Live Photos
Google today updated its Photos app for iOS to version 1.8.0, bringing support for two important features to iPhone and iPad users.

Back up your Live Photos and view them on any iOS device, including your iPad and previous generation iPhone.
After initial tests, some users concluded that the feature may be retroactive and they noticed that Live Photos that they’ve taken in February appear as Live Photos in the Google Photos app. Google hasn’t given yet a statement referring to these details.
The search giant on Monday rolled out Google Photos on iOS with support for backing up and viewing Live Photos, a feature exclusive to iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus.
Google Photos already lets users backup and view an unlimited number of high-resolution photos and videos for free, and Google recently added a button that lets users manually purge downloaded content to make room for more free storage. But when downloading the Live Photo from Google Photos back to the phone, it will no longer be animated.
Apple’s Live Photos for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are pretty cool.
Fans of Google Photos on the iOS platform hav been missing one major feature up until now: Live Photos support.
Elsewhere, navigation in the app has been improved so that users spend less time flipping “hamburger” menus, while cache usage has been reduced on devices that are running low on space.
