No understanding with Congress in WB: CPI

State Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee’s decision to announce the list of candidates well ahead has put some pressure on both Left and Congress but that doesn’t worry them as they seem to gained a lot from the grand alliance in the name of democracy and secularism. We had Left Front earlier but now we are having a new Front which is not an alliance but an electoral understanding.

Asked whether they would go for an alliance or seat adjustment with the Congress, Mr Bose refused to give a direct reply, saying things will be evident later.

“We will make an understanding with Congress in this election”.

Tthe LF chairman also said that the party will release its election manifesto in party’s official website in next few days. The two parties are trying to settle seat-sharing disputes at the state level as district Congress leaderships have taken a rigid stand over sacrificing seats.

However, Congress is also expected to announce their list following the seat sharing issue is resolved. “We don’t expect Congress to support us” . But as the BJP is raking up the so-called patriotic nationalists versus anti-national controversy, the JNUSU president will invariably be drawn into the poll campaign as sedition charges, despite his denial, were slapped against him and he was haunted on all media platforms.

“If there is any violence in the campaign stage, there will be flagless movement by all like-minded parties fighting against the Trinamul Congress”, he said.

Bose mocked posters and graffiti linking the LF spearhead Communist Party of India-Marxist poll symbol sickle-hammer-star with the Congress’ symbol hand.

Front chairman Bose said the Left had spoken to the NCP and the RJD, and would hold talks with the JDU.

It is learnt that the CPI-M has demanded seven assembly seats in Murshidabad district, but the Congress is not ready to sacrifice so many in their stronghold. A cursory look at the Left Front list shows that the Front is yet to iron out differences in most seats of north Bengal. The list includes 16 women, and 25 from the religious minorities.

Announcing the names of 116 candidates out of a total 294 seats, Bose had said, we have welcomed an understanding with Congress to remove Trinamool from the state. Allegations against Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the solar scam may prove to be the last straw for the UDF. Assembly polls in West Bengal will be spread over six phases starting from April 4.
