New Orleans Saints release Junior Galette

October 5, 2014; New Orleans, LA, USA; New Orleans Saints linebacker Junior Galette (93) tackles Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Austin Sefarian-Jenkins during a game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Galette has been a productive player for the Saints, but has had a rocky offseason which included an arrest and the surfacing of a video which shows a man reported to be Galette striking a woman during a major brawl.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the NFL is now investigating two separate off-field incidents, including the domestic violence arrest which occurred on January 5. He signed a four-year, $41.5 million contract extension last year that would make it financially hard to trade or release him.

In June, a YouTube video from 2013 came to light showing a man identified as Galette hitting a woman multiple times with a belt during a skirmish on a beach.

Lyons Yellin of WWL-TV in Louisana spoke to Galette after the release and posted the following series of tweets. He’s recorded 22 total sacks in the past two seasons, most on the team during that span. He said last month that he was scheduled to talk to the NFL about off-field troubles, but the league wouldn’t confirm whether a meeting took place or say if Galette will be disciplined earlier this week. A few weeks after the story was splattered all across the internet, the Saints decide to release their highly-paid pass rusher.
