Elizabeth Dole, have issued a joint statement on the death of Nancy Reagan, according to Dole’s office in Washington on Monday. “In saying a long goodbye, Nancy Reagan became a voice on behalf of millions of families experiencing the depleting, aching reality of Alzheimer’s disease”.

Nancy was born Anne Frances Robbin in New York City in 1921.

The former first lady will be laid to rest beside her husband during a private ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif. She became the most iconic first lady to live at the White House.

Revered in Republican politics, Reagan was known as a fierce protector of her husband, both personally and politically. Mrs. Reagan was, in many ways, the driving force behind President Reagan and many of his achievements.

“I got invited down to a magnificent luncheon and got to spend a lot of time with Nancy Reagan as well as the president”, he said. In May 2012 it was disclosed she had broken several ribs in a fall at her Los Angeles home six weeks earlier.

Nancy Reagan was a fierce guardian of her husband’s image, sometimes at the expense of her own, and during Ronald Reagan’s improbable climb from a Hollywood acting career to the governorship of California and ultimately the White House, she was a trusted adviser.

“But we had a head start, because we were fortunate to benefit from her proud example, and her warm and generous advice”. Nancy was the first lady of California when Ronald was governor of the Golden State from 1967 to 1975.

“I don’t think that she ever had another day during his presidency where there wasn’t some sort of fear involved and particularly, of course, when he went out in public”, he said.

Goodwin, who lives in Concord, Mass., noted that the former first lady saw her duty as supporting her husband and protecting his image, and attributed a large part of his political success to her. “I have seen her cope bravely with life’s most hard challenges, exuding grace and dignity and strength”.
