Holm looked well on her way to making a first successful defence of the belt she stripped from Rousey back at UFC 193. UFC president Dana White had promised that the victor of the Tate-Jessica Eye fight in July would meet Rousey for the title.

Holm survived close calls and spent most of the second round on her back.

White said he contacted Rousey, who was not watching Saturday’s fight. “I told her that Holm was choked unconsciously”. Despite Tate dominating the second round, Holm was ahead of the fight until the choke.

Rousey and Tate last encountered in a UFC bout 2013, one year after Tate lost to Rousey in a Strikeforce title defense bout. Yes, it is the former Bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey. After Holm’s knockout win over Rousey, we learned that was somewhat intentional.

But when Rousey wasn’t able to rematch Holm right away, Tate got the shot and made the most of it.

After defeating Rousey in November, Holm could have played it safe and waited for a rematch against Rousey, collecting a huge guaranteed payday.

Tate’s win-loss record improved to 18-5, while Holm’s dropped to 10-1 record.

“[Diaz and McGregor] are over here flipping each other off under the table and Holly and I are making each other friendship bracelets”, Tate added.
