Miesha Tate stunned Holly Holm Saturday night at UFC 196, defeating the bantamweight champion by submission with a rear naked choke hold.
The challenger needed a big round after taking hard blows in round one – she did not disappoint. “Unlike me when I lose my motivation is to get back onto the horse, fight someone else and fight my back again to the top”, Tate explained. She squeezed with all her might and Holm went out at 3:30, making Tate the new champion.
UFC fans packed the MGM Grand Arena to watch Holm and Tate battle it out. Conor McGregor will be featured in the fight wherein he jumps from 145 lbs.to 170 lbs., which is a first time in his career, while Diaz guns for a shot at history and an upset against the trash talking Irishman.
“For every fight I always feel pressure because I want to do well for my team that have helped me to get there. That’s what’s going to happen”, White told ESPN. She’s capable of catching anyone at any moment. She is more of a grappler while Holm is a striker, but each have shown willingness to compete in the other’s strength against other opponents. Rousey had stated that she was rooting for Holm, so she would have a chance to avenge her only loss, which came to Holm in November. Tate can’t afford to keep this fight on the feet, but she may not be able to have much say in that.
“Wherever the fight goes I want to be ready for it”.
Enthralling: Holly Holm was desperate not to be a one-hit wonder, but her reign as UFC bantamweight champion is over after just 112 days. “I had to be very patient … to find the flawless moment”, the new champion said in an interview right after the fight.
“I was holding on like a pitbull on a bone”, said Tate, a former Strikeforce champion who lost her belt to Rousey in 2012 and had come up short in her only UFC title shot against Rousey ay UFC 170 in 2013. But if they ever ask me about it, I’ll often call them out on it and ask, why now? “Tonight I made some mistakes”.

“I’m in it to fight”. She opted instead to remain active and fight Tate, a decision that backfired. “She has had way more time in the octagon than me, a lot more fighting, so there’s a lot of things that present a threat to me”.
