Brock Osweiler Agrees To Sign With Texans On Four-Year, $72M Deal

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – When it comes to the whole quarterback thing, John Elway has been there, done that. Among the various modes for roster-building, there appear to be areas where they can find it. What do the Broncos do at quarterback now?

The Houston Texans were willing to pay what the Denver Broncos were not for Brock Osweiler, and now the Texans have their quarterback of the future after reportedly agreeing to a four-year, $72 million deal with Osweiler.

The Houston Texans have signed former Miami Dolphins RB Lamar Miller to a four-year deal, according to Adam Schefter (ESPN).

Osweiler made $660,000 last year and Denver offered him about $16 million a year. “But bottom line coming to Houston was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up”.

The 6-foot-7 Osweiler, heading into his fifth season, went 5-2 as the starter last season when Manning was injured, throwing for 1,967 yards and nine touchdowns with five picks.

And that could mean a variety of things.

For about a month now, most thought that Kaepernick would try to compete for the 49ers starting quarterback job, but that may be changing and fast. Around the league, however, the current free-agent market is considered thin at the position, which is why Osweiler garnered the big contract. And it can’t be ignored that Fitzpatrick and Osweiler have the same agent – Jimmy Sexton. Who will start for the Broncos in the January 17 divisional playoff game? Injuries with Griffin III really worry me.

It would not come as a surprise if the Broncos pursued Fitzpatrick with great haste and vigour.

Kaepernick’s salary-cap figure is $15.27 million for the upcoming season and $19.87 million in 2017.

Broncos fans possibly are powering through this phase of the offseason muttering, “In Elway we trust”.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien spent Wednesday at the pro day for the University of Wisconsin but had some familiarity with Osweiler because of joint practices and preseason games against the Broncos.
