With the top free-agent running backs falling off the board, C.J. Anderson is quickly becoming one of the most coveted players still available.

It’s telling, though, that Anderson’s former offensive coordinator in Denver, Adam Gase, is the one recruiting him to join the Dolphins.

The Broncos will have five days to match the offer the Miami Dolphins give Anderson. Despite being a restricted free agent, there is no draft pick compensation attached to the restrictions on Anderson, meaning the Dolphins would not have to send the Broncos any picks if Denver chooses to not match the offer. He’s productive (averaging 4.8 yards per carry in his career).

Anderson had an up-and-down season for Denver came on late in the year and 90 rushing yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl win against Carolina. He had 179 carries for 849 yards with eight touchdowns in 2014. But on Thursday, Anderson will meet with the Dolphins, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and it sounds as though there’s the potential for him to have an offer sheet in hand before he leaves. The Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, and San Francisco 49ers were all expected to be interested in signing Anderson this offseason.
