MI in the spotlight in Tuesday’s primary contests

Gov. John Kasich, (R-OH), is the Governor of Ohio. John Kasich had the most talking time and exposure he ever had in these debates too.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio has events in Idaho – rallies in Idaho Falls and Boise – ahead of the state’s primary on Tuesday. To secure the GOP nomination during the primaries a candidate must win 1,237 delegates.

Republican presidential candidates (Lto R) Sen. “Love the beatings. Love them, ‘” Kasich said. However, while the OH governor is campaigning hard in Michigan’s primary on Tuesday, he has staked his entire campaign on the winner-take-all OH contest on 15 March, and Schwarzenegger’s endorsement added hometown credibility in addition to celebrity luster.

“When he went into Washington, he kicked some serious butt”. The New York Times’ editorial board called him “the only plausible choice for Republicans exhausted of the extremism and inexperience on display in this race”, a less than enthusiastic, but ultimately supportive statement for Kasich’s bid.

Meanwhile, the race is rapidly solidifying into a two-person battle between Trump and Ted Cruz, who picked up two more state wins Saturday.

Kasich’s push for an OH victory comes as the other remaining establishment Republican option, Marco Rubio, is sliding from relevance. When Kasich told him years ago he was planning to run for governor of Ohio, Schwarzenegger said he told him, “I’ll be back” to support him again. Then, he hopes to win delegates to his side at the GOP convention in Cleveland in July. “Rubio voters move to Kasich 75/16 over Trump, Cruz voters do so 69/25, and undecideds would pick him 54/11 if Kasich and Trump ended up being the two candidates they chose between”.

That GOP insiders like Romney would be strategizing about how to steer the race for the nomination into a brokered convention speaks volumes about how uncomfortable many in the GOP are with Trump.

“If the poll is accurate, this is good news for the movement against Donald Trump”, said Mark Caleb Smith, director of the Center for Political Studies at Cedarville University.

Should Kasich win his home state, his climb to the nomination remains steep; he’d need to win well over half of the remaining delegates.

John Kasich continues to close the gap with Donald Trump in his home state, according to a new poll released Monday.

Rubio, whose appeal with party leaders hasn’t been reciprocated by voters, insisted he would press on to Florida. “And I have to go tonight because, tomorrow, the terminator is going to be with me and we’re going to be meeting in OH”.

“A country has to lock its doors, we have to know who is coming in”, Mr. Kasich said.
