What Arsenal star’s injury setback means for Arsene Wenger

Speaking to Arsenal’s website on Thursday morning, Wenger said: “We had a few injuries at Hull – Gabriel, Mertesacker and Ramsey”.

At a press conference, Wenger told reporters that there was a bit of a silver lining with the injuries.

“We lost our two centre-backs and after that we lost Ramsey”.

Arsenal have yet to discover the full extent of Aaron Ramsey’s thigh injury.

Wenger also offered an injury update on Laurent Koscielny, who has been sidelined during recent games. The former Germany global had a clash of heads with Nick Powell, while Gabriel was withdrawn following an aerial challenge.

Arsenal players held a “closed doors” crisis meeting without their manager’s or coaches’ knowledge before Tuesday’s FA cup win against second tier Hull to discuss a woeful run of five games without a win in all competitions, striker Theo Walcott said. Mertesacker initially went down for several minutes, but he remained in the game after receiving treatment before asking to be substituted.

If he had been missing Gabriel and Mertesacker it would have left him in dire straits for this weekend in particular, with just Calum Chambers available to him in the position.

Despite the injuries on defense, the Gunners didn’t have any trouble dispatching Hull, which was surprising after their previous meeting ended in a 0-0 draw at Emirates Stadium.

“It will keep them happy”.

The comment suggests that both will be able to take part in Sunday’s FA Cup quarterfinal at home to Watford. “No, so that gives you the answer”.
