Carson endorses Trump for president

After so much foolishness from Carson, his legacy, at best, was already on life support, but his full-throttled endorsement of Trump, and complete silence about the bigotry, xenophobia, and violence emanating from him, is still very sad.

Ben Carson, retired neurosurgeon and former Republican candidate for president, endorsed Donald Trump for president Friday at a news conference in Florida.

“He’s actually a very intelligent man who cares deeply about America”, Carson said at a press conference at the Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Forida.

Chris Christie was the first former presidential candidate to back Trump after the New Jersey governor left the race.

Ted Cruz, now backed by Carly Fiorina, is trying to consolidate the “Stop Trump” vote. Carson called on Cruz to take responsibility and fire whoever was responsible for the “blatant lying”, and Cruz subsequently apologized.

“Some people have said, ‘Why would you get behind a man like Donald Trump?’ I’ll tell you why. I gained a lot respect for him”.

Trump also mercilessly taunted and mocked him on the campaign trail, particularly over Carson’s claim that he once tried to stab a fellow student but that the boy’s belt buckle prevented the knife from breaking the skin. It’s not about Mr. Trump.

During a Republican presidential debate aired on CNN on Thursday night, Trump confirmed Carson’s backing.

Carson’s decision may surprise some of his backers since Trump made blistering critiques over the past year of stories from Carson’s past. He said his endorsement “adds total credence to what I’m trying to do”. It was good to admire who we thought you were while it lasted. Fielding questions from reporters for about 45 minutes, Trump said he is hopeful about clinching the nomination by getting 1,237 delegates and avoid a situation in which the nominee is chosen at the Republican convention over the summer.

One person he has not had contact with: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Depends on which Trump you ask.

Carson praised the Manhattan businessman, saying, “There are two different Donald Trumps”. Presidential candidates continue to campaign before Florida’s March 15th primary day.

Republican front-runner Donald Trump says he will defeat the Islamic State group if he is elected president, but he will let the generals “play their own game”. That’s stating the obvious.
