Republican front-runner Trump gets ex-rival Carson’s backing

Carson also gave an interesting analysis of the man he’s endorsing, noting that there are “two Donald Trumps”.

Trump suggested that establishment Republicans are beginning to rally around him in private conversations. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who dropped out of the GOP presidential race following a series of low finishes on Super Tuesday, is set to endorse Trump on Friday, according to multiple news organizations.

Had that more diplomatic tone reflected a second, truer Trump behind the typically brash facade?

Appearing Thursday on Fox News radio, Carson hinted that he is “certainly leaning” toward a candidate and spoke highly of Trump. So Trump is two-faced and that’s an asset? Some began Trump’s own words – one such examples is a tweet from The Donald from November, in which he described Carson, who was still a competitor at that point, as “weak”.

“I didn’t know we had a next debate. That was political stuff”, Carson said during a joint appearance with the billionaire businessman at a news conference at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club resort in Palm Beach, Florida. “I don’t like to overanalyze myself”, he decided.

Trump has been picking off his opponents one by one in the race and he is aiming to deliver a knockout blow against Rubio on the senator’s home turf in Florida, a crown jewel in the nominations race.

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz says he was happy the latest GOP debate was more civil than previous ones. “More than half see him as “strongly” unfavorable”.

“It is not about Mr. Trump it’s about America”, said Carson at a press conference in Florida. He sought to project the image of a front-runner, saying he hoped there would not be a Republican National Convention fight over who will be the nominee. Instead, he said, the party should and already is beginning to accept and even “embrace” his candidacy. “The Republicans now want to embrace it”.

Trump also mercilessly taunted and mocked him on the campaign trail, particularly over Carson’s claim that he once tried to stab a fellow student but that the boy’s belt buckle prevented the knife from breaking the skin.

However, it sounds unusual to some, especially after Trump compared Carson’s temper, which the former brain surgeon wrote about, to child molesting in an interview a year ago.

Carson returned to the theme of the campaign being about “We the people”.

“And I fought back and I hit him hard, which is politics and Ben understands that”, Trump said. “It’s really all about the people”.
