Marco Rubio Bracing for ‘Tough Fight’ with Donald Trump in Florida

When asked specifically if he was telling Rubio supporters in OH to vote for Kasich, Conant responded, “Yeah, my answer is John Kasich is the one candidate in OH that can beat Donald Trump”.

Rubio looked to the same “it’s me or Trump” strategy Friday when his campaign released a statement saying any vote not for Rubio is a vote for the billionaire businessman.

Cruz is running third in the polls in Florida behind Trump and Rubio, respectively, but he is in second place behind Trump when it comes to delegates won so far.

The extraordinary tactic reflects the increasing sense of urgency looming over the 2016 contest as Trump eyes what would be a devastating sweep in next week’s winner-take-all elections in OH and Florida. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., from left, Donald Trump, Sen.

“I’ll leave it to John to make that argument”, he said. But without the Kasich team, and even the Cruz team, advocating for the same thing, it’s tough to see how voters will hear the message loud enough-let alone get enthusiastic about the idea-for it to make much difference.

“This party is going to support the nominee, whoever that is, 100 percent”.

“That’s what we need a little bit more of”, Trump said during a Friday news conference. Florida police are investigating another allegation of violence against a Trump protester from earlier in the month as well. The National Review posted an item from Ramesh Ponnuru titled “Crubio or Crasich” Wednesday, one day after the latest round of Republican contests.

“I believe Marco Rubio has the best chance of unifying the party and winning in November”, said Tom Grossmann, a county commissioner and Rubio supporter. “I think it is important we stop Mr. Trump”.

“Nobody else has any plausible path to (the needed 1,237 delegates)”, Cruz said.

A spokesman for the OH governor, Rob Nichols, agreed that Rubio backers should vote for Kasich: “They were going to do so anyway”, he told CBS News’ Erica Brown. “I love all the trends that are happening”.
