In a post on the Android developers blog, VP of Engineering Dave Burke said they’re trying something a little different this year by releasing the preview early.
So, by enrolling in the beta, you can get the Android N developer preview via an over-the-air update as you would get any standard update. And to encourage developers to test the preview on its own Android devices, Google is also offering a related incentive: a 25-percent price cut on the Pixel C, the 2-in-1 (and Android-powered) convertible tablet launched in December. The native side-by-side app mode in Android – as per the images shared in the report – suggest an interface similar to the one we see on Samsung phones.
Efficiency has been improved in Android N. Doze saves further battery power when the screen is off. Project Svelte continues to reduce the memory needs of Android – improving its responsiveness on devices with less memory. The other noteworthy feature involves notifications – new tools for apps to bundle notifications on the home screen and let users reply through them. Google unveiled a preview version of Android N for developers this week. Android N also support freeform mode which when enabled (by the manufacturer) lets the user freely resize the app window. If at all this makes it in the final cut, developers will need to “add a new manifest attribute called android:resizableActivity to their apps” in order to make them usable in split-screen view, adds the report.
“It’s earlier than ever, it’s easier to try and we’re expanding the ways for you to give is feedback”.
It was originally expected that Google was going to release Android N during its I/O developer conference in May, but the company made a decision to release it earlier so developers can start sending feedback. Builder.setGroup() method to group notifications from the same app together – for example individual messages from a messaging app. In the 18 years, Google has expanded from being just a search engine to a global force in the world of internet technology. Android N factory images are available for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and Pixel C. Surprise omission from this list is Nexus 5, one the most popular android phone in the series.
It goes without saying that this is a very early, very buggy release of Android N: don’t do this with a device you rely on and make sure all your key data is backed up first.
