Swift apologizes to Minaj about tweet over VMA nominations

The rift between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj – now concluded by Swift’s apology, admitting that she “missed the point … misunderstood, then misspoke” – is not a debate, it’s a distraction.

Accepting the apology, Nicki said: “That means so much Taylor, thank you”.

The same blog hinted that Swift’s “Bad Blood”, a song on two women with a broken relationship, might be about Swift and Perry.

Let’s go back to the intersection of racism and sexism – i.e. where Nicki Minaj tried to begin the discussion before it was derailed by Taylor Swift jumping in with an all too typical “stop being divisive” and “stop pitting groups against one another” defense.

Minaj responded with understandable confusion, tweeting, “Huh?”

A few moments later, Perry shared more of her thoughts on the upcoming award show. She called out Swift’s hypocrisy in demanding the support of all women when Swift herself is using a popular music video to criticize a female contemporary.

Whether or not Katy Perry is winning the war against Taylor or not, Swift is bowing down and ceding defeat against this particular foe.

Ed Sheeran, Swift’s pal and former opening act, rose to her defense.

It’s been years since MTV has regularly played music videos-the medium it built its brand and its popularity on-and it’s been years of mockery when the network unveils its annual list of Video Music Award nominations.

Now, since the feud got completely blown out of proportion, Swift has decided to take the high road and apologize to Minaj. While she generates an important discussion about flaws in the music industry, Minaj’s snub for Video of the Year was not necessarily driven by her image. “I’m sorry, Nicki”, she wrote on her Twitter timeline.

“Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…”, Katy wrote. Hopefully Swift will join in on the discussion of race and feminism instead of cattily inviting Minaj on stage. While Minaj received two nominations for her work in “Anaconda“, the rapper took to Twitter to express her displeasure over “Feeling Myself” being shut out and not receiving a Video Of The Year nomination for “Anaconda“.

Though if Minaj’s tweets were making a general point (rather than a specific jibe towards Taylor Swift) all that got a bit lost in the Twitter storm. She then sent out her note of appreciation.

So does Perry have a point?
