Courts should highlight oldest cases: PM on ‘justice delayed’

The Prime Minister spoke of the great power of technology, and said the bar, bench and court should all be techno-savvy. The land’s top court has made arrangements to showcase Modi its achievement of disposing of a record number of cases past year. Both maintained that Bihar’s development is necessary for ensuring progress of the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the nerve centre of India’s development lies in the eastern parts of the country, especially Bihar.

The CJI, in his speech, had pointed out that 468 of around 900 posts of HC judges were vacant across the country, causing difficulties in timely disposal of cases.

He appreciated the Bihar government’s assistance in strengthening judicial system in the state.
The chief minister said despite limited resources, the state government has accorded priority to works related to the field of judiciary. Despite their political differences, Kumar welcomed Modi to Bihar sharing bonhomie and happily obliged lensmen as the two leaders shared the dais.
He urged Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda to expedite release of funds “on time” for this objective. He, however, did not respond to an issue raised at the function by his preceding speakers CJI TS Thakur and Patna HC acting chief justice Iqbal Ahmad Ansari. Today out of 38 districts 37 of them have courts, he said.

Ansari said freedom fighters like Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India and Sachidananda Sinha, member of draft committee of the Constitution, had practised in the Patna High Court.
